BACKGROUND + EXPERIENCE
Janelle Stelson was born + raised in Fairbanks Alaska and graduated from the University of Puget Sound. She is an Emmy Award winning broadcast journalist with an extensive career as a featured news anchor in the southeastern Pennsylvania region. In 1997, she became news anchor at WGAL-TV + her 11 pm show has consistently held the region’s highest ratings. Senior News has repeatedly named Stelson “Best News Anchor.” She is a visible, established, trusted media presence in PA 10. By training + experience, she is an excellent communicator + well-versed in the day-to-day issues that matter to residents of PA10.

ON THE ISSUES
Janelle Stelson had three primary motivations for her run for this House seat: the consequences of the demise of Roe v, Wade, the corrosive anti-democratic impacts of the MAGA extremism of her opponent + the day-to-day needs + issues of PA10 residents that are not being addressed in Congress.

On Roe- v Wade + the Dobbs decision she has stated: “Women are increasingly letting their voices be heard on this subject. And we’re not happy. ...Perry has for the past seven years sponsored legislation called the Life at Conception Act and in favor of a nationwide abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, health of the mother, and has the same approach to IVF....”(PENN Capital Star 5/13/24)

POLITICS IN PENNSYLVANIA
PA 10 is located in the south-central region of the state. It includes all of Dauphin County as well as parts of Cumberland + York Counties. It includes the cities of York + Harrisburg.

 

As a critical swing or battleground state, election outcomes in Pennsylvania will go a long way in determining which party will control the While house + both houses of Congress. In many ways, Pennsylvania will be “ground zero” in the 2024 election cycle in determining the political + policy direction of the nation. PA 10 has been held by MAGA extremist Scott Perry for six terms.

Since redistricting, PA 10 presents an excellent opportunity to flip a long-held Republican district from red to blue. Daily Kos calculated what the results of the 2020 presidential election in this district would have been following redistricting. Biden/Harris would have defeated Trump/Pence 59.5-39.5%. The district, as currently structured, is favorable to Stelson.
