Support Force Multiplier's Democracy in Action Slate!

The Force Multiplier Democracy in Action slate supports grassroots organizations that are expanding the electorate 
+ building democracy in 7 critical states. 

 

All groups on this slate are non-partisan 501c3s 

+ provide an opportunity for tax-advantaged giving.

​

 

ARIZONA: Worker Power Institute-Arizona (formerly known as CASE) 

"A multi-racial, multigenerational organization dedicated to achieving economic, social + racial justice through civic + policy engagement. In the 2023-2024 cycle they will focus on expanding the electorate:  

  • Worker Power Leadership School - To train the next generation of organizers who will run strong field + advocacy campaigns. 

  • Voter Registration - Complete over 6,700 non-partisan voter registration applications, including for permanent vote-by-mail among young people of color in Maricopa County + rural areas of central + Pima County. 

  • Voter Turnout + GOTV (Get Out the Vote) - Conduct 282,178 nonpartisan GOTV calls + send 198,144 texts to mobilize new, sporadic youth voters + voters of color to the polls. 

  • Mass voter education: Recruit 500 canvassers to knock on at least 1.2 million doors in support of reproductive rights + minimum wage ballot initiatives”

 

GEORGIA: New Georgia Project 

New Georgia Project is a nonpartisan effort to register, civically engage + build power with the new Georgia majority – the large + growing population of Black, brown, young + other historically marginalized voters in the Peach State.

NGP plans to register 50,000 new voters with 20 full time organizers working on issues campaigns such as childcare, housing affordability, abortion rights + ​environmental justice. Campaigns include:

    • Black Mamas initiative focused on maternal health + safety  

    • CLEAR initiative aiming to cancel college debt working with NGP chapters on campuses, affordable childcare + affordable housing  

    • My Community, My Hospital focused on hospital closings in Georgia + their effect on healthcare, especially in rural areas. Georgia is “closing hospitals + building prisons.”

    • Legalizing marijuana + getting BIPOC into the industry

    • Faith in Action program working with religious groups 

    • The purpose of these initiatives is to empower the voters of Georgia + encourage their participation in future elections.
 

MICHIGAN: Michigan United  

Michigan United is a statewide organization of churches, labor + community groups working to ensure that the economy works for the many, civil rights are protected + democracy is strong. They work statewide + are based in Detroit, Kalamazoo, Flint + E. Lansing with a ‘pod’ in the Upper Peninsula (UP).  They are the largest field operation in the state besides the MI Dem Party + Labor. Their election protection work includes poll monitors, voter protection, support and collaboration with poll workers + Clerks. They also work on language access. They won the fight for ballots in Arabic, Bengali, Spanish + French for French Canadians + African Francophones.

MONTANA: Western Native Voice Education Project

WNVEP works to inspire Native leadership through civic engagement, education, leadership development, and public policy advocacy.  Native Americans make up 9% of Montana's population, with half of the population living off reservations.  The group works directly with Montana’s eight Tribal Nations, seven tribal colleges, other Native American organizations, Native leaders, and native communities to leverage resources. 

Their 2024 Program Priorities include:

  • Increasing Native voter registration by registering at least 2500 new voters and working with all Montana Tribal Nations to set up Online Voter Registration Stations. In addition to field organizers in target locations , WNVEP will also be phone banking, texting voters, running media campaigns, door-knocking, providing rides to the polls, ground election protection, hosting community events. 

  • Expanding Native Voter Enfranchisement: collaborating with Tribal governments and county elections offices to ensure that all Tribal Nations have adequate satellite elections office services for the 2024 elections; leading voter education campaigns to ensure Native communities are informed of new changes to voting laws. Lastly, alongside coalition partners, executing a robust election protection plan across ten target areas through the early voting period and on election day. 

  • Increasing Native Youth Engagement by collaborating with teachers and administrators at Tribal colleges and high schools, to educate students about the civic process and how it is connected to important issues that impact their everyday lives and help them learn how to engage in our democracy.

NEVADA: Make the Road/Nevada

MRNV elevates the power of working class immigrant communities through voter education + organizing to engage BIPOC - especially young Latinos - in elections. Launched in Las Vegas, they expanded into northern Nevada + now added a 7-county rural initiative. Given new, more complicated voting processes, Spanish-speaking + new American voters need more education, support + encouragement. Organizers and members engage in relational organizing + direct outreach including door-to-door canvassing, phone + text banking + hosting community events. They are:

  • hiring 60 canvassers/phone bankers year-round complemented by members with canvassing experience; 

  • empowers 40+ members as block captains, maintaining engagement with voters in their community. Each turns out 20+ voters + helps them mobilize 3 more, etc;

  • ensuring voters have necessary information to vote up + down the entire ballot;

  • using new data collection software which inputs into VAN, so they can better track progress, identify areas for improvement + optimize voter mobilization strategies.

NORTH CAROLINA: You Can Vote NC  

Trains + mobilizes volunteers to educate, register + empower North Carolina citizens to vote. They focus on historically marginalized people–low-income, currently or formerly incarcerated, with disabilities, ages 16-25, or people of color (POC). Working in high schools, on college campuses, in detention centers + in communities across the state, they are active in 60 of North Carolina’s 100 counties which are home to over 70% of the state’s population. Key programs include:

  • Community Voter Engagement meeting voters where they live/work to educate them about upcoming elections.

  • Increasing civic engagement on college campuses through the NC Campus Voting Challenge + their NC Civic Fellowship program. 

  • Fostering civic engagement among high school students through their ACTIVATE workshops for grades 11 & 12. 

  • Providing free voter education toolkits for NC nonprofits, schools, businesses + institutions to educate their constituents. 

  • Relational GOTV through text messaging + phone calls.

  • Election protection through their Voting Rights Ambassadors program,  pitching orange tents at early voting locations across the state to assist voters with same-day registration + help them navigate new NC voting laws.

 

OHIO: Ohio Progressive Collaborative Educational Fund

OPCEF, the Ohio donor table, has been focused on democracy reform since its inception in 2018. It funds a coalition of in-state 501(c)3’s focused on transformative voter registration, education + mobilization year-round. In 2024 they’re focused on engaging non-voters + are supporting multi-racial, multi-class organizations in the communities that reflect the full diversity of Ohio, from mostly Black neighborhoods in Ohio’s largest cities - Cleveland, Cincinnati + Columbus - to working families in Appalachia to the rapidly growing + diversifying suburbs. They're undertaking the largest Ohio voter registration drive in 15 years with a goal of 250,000 new Democratic voters. OPCEF will allocate Force Multiplier funding to support the four organizations leading their voter registration + civic engagement programming:

  • Ohio Organizing Collaborative works in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland

  • Freedom ROC focuses on Black, youth + low propensity voters in Akron + Youngstown

  • Ohio Citizen Action Education Fund works in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland + Toledo

  • Ohio Student Association works on at least 9 college campuses

PENNSYLVANIA: One PA

One PA For All brings together community organizing, voter registration + voter turnout to defend + expand democracy  + stand up for racial + economic justice.  One PA For All's team of organizers + outreach specialists have powerful conversations + listen deeply to hundreds of thousands of community members + voters across four Pennsylvania counties with the largest Black communities: Allegheny County (Pittsburgh), Philadelphia, Delaware County + Dauphin County (Harrisburg). These face-to-face conversations are amplified with digital outreach, highlighting the lived experience + stories of their members. One PA For All is organizing tenants for housing justice, community residents for clean air + water + leaders for democracy protection. They aim to register 38,000 voters, knock on 180,000 doors 7+ times + make over 2.1 million voter contacts through canvassing, phone banks + texting. â€‹â€‹
