Meet U.S. Senate Candidate Josh Turek Iowa Open-Flip DONATE to the Turek Campaign DONATE to FM Senate Slate Return to Senate Slate Why This Race Matters During the last several decades, Iowa has become reliably Republican. They hold a trifecta in state government with control of the governorship and both chambers of the state legislature. The last Democrat to win a US Senate seat in Iowa was Tom Harkin in 2008. However, this cycle has highly competitive races for governor, congressional districts 01, 02 and 03 and the US Senate. There’s a Senate vacancy because incumbent Jodi Ernst, first elected in ‘15, is not running. The Republican candidate facing Turek is Ashley Hinson- currently serving in the House representing IA 02. Her background is as a news anchor, reporter, and producer with TV-9 in Iowa. She has served in the state legislature and was endorsed by both Trump and Ernst. Following Turek’s primary victory, both Cook Political Report and Sabato's Crystal Ball shifted their ratings for this race from Likely R to Lean R signifying that while Hinson has some advantage, this race is competitive offering Democrats a critical opportunity to flip a seat. He has a BA from Southwest Minnesota Stare University and an MBA from DeVry University. He had successful collegiate, Olympic, and professional careers as a basketball player and was inducted into the National Wheelchair Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023. While playing professional basketball, Turek volunteered as Director of the Ryan Martin Foundation, an organization that provides opportunities for disabled children to participate in sports. Turek was first elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in ‘22 and reelected in ‘24 in a strongly pro-Trump district. During his tenure in the state legislature, he has focused on disability policy, health care, and agricultural issues. Turek and his wife live in Council Bluffs, Iowa. On the Issues Turek has “a prairie populist's platform to rebuild the American dream.” Issues he will champion in the Senate include: Each and every American should be able to afford the basics. Health care is a human right. All Americans deserve access to basic care. Stop the corruption. Politicians should deliver for the people, not enrich themselves. Meet U.S. Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed Michigan Open Seat DONATE to the El-Sayed Campaign DONATE to FM Senate Slate Return to Senate Slate Why This Race Matters Democratic efforts to regain the US Senate begin with holding current seats. The one currently held by retiring Senator Gary Peters is the most vulnerable. Republicans see Michigan as their best opportunity to flip a seat this cycle and are poised to invest heavily in supporting their candidate, former US Representative Mike Rogers. A loss in Michigan would extremely narrow Democratic hopes of re-gaining a Senate majority and would likely require Democrats to sweep all the open seats - North Carolina, Iowa, Texas, Alaska, New Hampshire - and beat Republican incumbents in Maine and Ohio. A swing state in recent presidential elections, Michigan is a competitive political environment. It is currently represented by two Democratic US Senators and Democrats hold every statewide office including governor. Republicans have a 7-6 advantage in the state’s House delegation. Democrats have a slim majority in the Michigan Senate and Republicans hold a similar majority in the state House of Representatives. Following the conclusion of the intensely competitive and sometimes contentious recent Michigan Democratic primary, this Senate race is currently rated Toss-up by Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, and Sabato's Crystal Ball. Neither El-Sayed nor Rogers has an advantage at this point. Watch Background + Experience Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is a Michigan native. He graduated from the University of Michigan with the highest distinction and played on the Wolverine lacrosse team. He earned his MD degree from Columbia University on a National Institutes of Health-funded fellowship and a second doctorate (in Public Health in 2011) from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. El-Sayed’s professional career gravitated to the field of public health. He led Detroit's Health Department after bankruptcy and restructured the Wayne County, MI Department of Health, Human & Veterans Services. As a physician and epidemiologist, Dr. El-Sayed is recognized as an expert working to bring high quality, affordable healthcare to all in America. In 2020, he was selected to serve on President Biden’s Unity Task Force for Healthcare helping to craft policies to reduce consumers’ prescription drug prices. El-Sayed is a card-carrying member of the American Federation of Teachers, Service Employees International Union, the National Writers Union, and the American Association of University Professors. He lives in Ann Arbor with his wife Sarah and two daughters. On The Issues El-Sayed is a populist and a progressive who has refused to accept PAC money for his campaign. His positions have energized a legion of grassroots campaign volunteers who helped offset the substantial funding deficit he faced in his successful primary run. El-Sayed views banning corporate money in politics as foundational to his campaign and his commitment to work in the Senate. Despite criticisms to the contrary, he views himself as a capitalist and believes in free enterprise. Meet U.S. House Candidate Jared Moskowitz Florida 25 Challenger DONATE to the Moskowitz Campaign DONATE to FM House Slate Return to House Slate Why This Race Matters Redistricting has virtually dismantled Moskowitz’s current district. The new FL 25 includes nearly half of the population of his current district 23, strengthening his chances for reelection despite aggressive gerrymandering efforts by Governor DeSantis and Florida’s legislature. The new FL 25 combines elements of the current FL 23, 24, and 25 districts and consists of a narrow strip from Boca Raton to Miami Beach. Moskowitz’s Republican opponent won’t be determined until the August primary giving Moskowitz some initial advantage in the general election. However, he will probably face significant, well-funded opposition considering the current make-up of the Republican primary field. The general election campaign, currently rated Toss-up, will be highly competitive. Hear directly from candidate Moskowitz in this short video: Moskowitz Criticizes Wasteful GOP Bill: 'I Decided to DOGE Your Budget' Watch Background + Experience A native and lifelong resident of South Florida, Moskowitz has a BA in Political Science from George Washington University and a law degree from Nova Southeastern University. He interned for Vice President Al Gore and worked on several Democratic campaigns He was a Florida elector for Barack Obama in 2008. Moskowitz was elected to the Parkland City Commission while in law school and served for six years. He championed public safety and environmental initiatives. In 2012, Moskowitz was elected to the Florida House of Representatives where he served for six years, building a reputation as a bipartisan problem-solver. After the 2018 mass shooting at his alma mater Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Moskowitz was instrumental in crafting the comprehensive Douglas High School Public Safety Act addressing school safety and gun violence. Governor DeSantis appointed Moskowitz Director of Florida’s Division of Emergency Management in 2018. In that role he managed several crises including some hurricanes and the state’s response to the Covid pandemic. Later Moskowitz was appointed to the Broward County Commission, working on issues of affordability, infrastructure, public safety, and transportation. Moskowitz was elected to Congress in 2022 from FL 23. He is on the Foreign Relations Committee as ranking member of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Accountability and as a member of the Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and Indo-Pacific. He is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and is a co-founder of the Bipartisan Disaster Preparedness Caucus. He helped co-launch the Bipartisan School Safety and Security Caucus. Moskowitz and his wife Leah live in Parkland and have two sons. On the Issues Moskowitz has long demonstrated leadership on security, school safety, and crisis management. He brings a results-focused bi-partisan mindset to his roles in Congress as a strong, effective advocate for South Florida families. Meet U.S. House Candidate Denise Powell Nebraska 02 Open Seat DONATE to the Powell Campaign DONATE to FM House Slate Return to House Slate Why This Race Matters NE 02 has been held by Republican Don Bacon since 2016 when he was the only Republican to flip a House seat. His decision not to seek another term has created an open seat in one of just three Republican–held seats won by Kamala Harris in ‘24 by five points. Bacon won his final re-election in ‘24 by two points. This race represents a clear pick-up opportunity for Democrats. The district is among the most evenly divided in the nation with a slim D+0.8 margin. Powell was victorious in the May ‘26 Democratic primary, defeating six other candidates, including members of the Omaha political establishment. Her general election opponent is Republican Brinker Harding who was unopposed in the Republican primary. This race is rated Lean D although the seat is currently Republican. She has been deeply engaged in the Omaha community serving the interests of under-resourced populations and addressing the barriers faced by women – particularly women of color. She has been on the boards of the Immigrant legal Center, the Women’s Center for Advancement, and Amplify Arts. Powell is a former corporate executive, small business owner, healthcare advocate, and public school supporter. This is her first run for political office, but she is well known in political circles from her work recruiting and supporting women candidates in Nebraska. A 2000 graduate of the University of Miami, Powell worked for public relations firms Edelman-Ketchum and Fleishman-Hillard before working in-house for PepsiCo and Hilton Hotels. After moving to Omaha in 2009, she established her own public relations consulting business. From 2015-2021 Powell was a partner working on external relations for an Omaha architecture firm. Following the 2026 election, Powell founded Women Who Run, a Nebraska state-level PAC dedicated to recruiting and supporting progressive women running for office.
