Three Democrats are seeking to fill the seat vacated by long term incumbent Republican Darrell Issa who has decided to not seek re-election: Ammar Camp Najja, Brandon Riker, and Marni von Wilpert.  Issa was re-elected by nearly 19% in 2024. However, Prop 50 has redrawn the district to make it more favorable, moving it  from a Trump +6 to a Harris +14 district. In light of Issa’s decision, both the Cook Political Report and Sabato's Crystal Ball have shifted their rating's from Toss- up to Lean D as of 3/10/26..
