Several Democrats are vying to unseat two-term incumbent Republican Thomas Kean Jr.: Rebecca Bennett, Megan ORourke, Michael Roth, Tina Shah, and Brian Varela, with the front runners appearing to be Rebecca Bennett and Brian Varela.  Kean defeated Susan Altman by 5.2% in 2024. NJ 07 is generally viewed as a swing or purple district. In 2020, President Biden carried it by 4% and  in 2024 Harris carried it  by 5.9%. Both The Cook Political Report and Sabato’s Crystal Ball currently rate this race as Toss-up.
